Root Canal Therapy in Sidcup, Kent

Root canal therapy is cleaning and sealing the inside of a damaged tooth. We provide the specialist service of an endodontist (Claudia Ramirez- Bonner) at this practice to perform these procedures. Referals from other dentists are more than welcome.

Using state of the art equipment including surgical high magnification - the procedures are carried effectively providing the best chance of saving the damaged tooth. Many people associate this treatment with pain but this treatment usually provides pain relief. It is the pain prior to root canal therapy that people usually remember!

Stage 1
a badly damaged tooth

Stage 2
1. Damage occurs to the nerve tissue

2. Infection spreads under the tooth

Stage 3
The disinfected canals are sealed to prevent reinfection

Anything that causes trauma to a tooth (e.g. decay, deep fillings or other forms of damage) can cause the blood and nerve supply to become damaged. Sometimes if the damage is minor, the nerve and blood supply will recover in a matter of weeks and treatment is not required. This is called 'reversible inflammation' and is often experienced after deep fillings are replaced. However, root canal therapy will be essential to save the tooth if it continually causes problems. This is known as 'irreversible damage'.

Once this treatment has been completed a crown may be necessary to protect the damaged tooth.

Signs of Damage/Do I Need a Root Treatment?

2. Dull ache (short duration)

Irreversible inflammation - root treatment is needed

3. Much more painful
4. Tooth very tender to bite/touch
5. Swelling or spongy feeling from tooth
6. Bad Tastes

Due to the variable nature of these signs and symptoms, a full assessment is required to provide a definitive diagnosis prior to treatment
